Base Camp Dog Training is based in Perkiomenville, PA (Montgomery County), and serves Montgomery County, and areas within Bucks and Lehigh Counties.
In 2015, I adopted my first dog and my world grew exponentially. Tomas, a sweet, silly street dog from Puerto Rico with an old soul, has explored parks with me, made several cross country trips, and is always down to snuggle. While there was always an occasional challenge, he has always been a very easy dog.
However, it was when we started fostering another dog that I quickly realized just how much I needed to learn about dog behavior to give him the best life possible. Tony had been adopted and returned a few times and could be reactive around children, adults and other dogs. Apartment living with tight hallways, elevators and busy sidewalks made every day a challenge. Boarding and dog daycare had its limitations with him. I started to piece together any and all dog training info I could get, embarking in a lot of trial and error to get to what worked with Tony. What I learned most during this journey from an amazing network of trainers was that basic obedience was just a small piece of the puzzle, and that we are rarely ever ‘training’ the dog, but rather coaching the human. I needed to learn how to lead with intention, how to manage my energy, and how to tap into instinct a bit more (hello, overthinkers out there!) to truly connect with Tony and others like him.
I know how daunting things can feel when it comes to caring for your dog. Busy schedules can make consistency difficult, and just going for a walk can feel chaotic, heavy and discouraging. I started Base Camp Dog Training to help owners better understand their dogs, the reason behind the behavior and realistic, tangible ways to get to a happy, calm and fulfilled pack.
I’ve studied under Cesar Millan, completing his Fundamentals 1+2 trainings, participated in Pack Leader Blueprint, Dog Somatics 101 (Waldrup Somatic Method), and am currently pursuing additional certification.
